Tyne Theatre and Opera House

The Tyne Theatre and Opera House is a historic Victorian theatre located in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Opened in 1867, it was designed by architect William Parnell and founded by local politician Joseph Cowen. The theatre is celebrated for its stunning Victorian architecture, featuring ornate ceilings and elaborate stage machinery, making it one of the best-preserved theatres in the UK.

Originally hosting Victorian stage shows, the venue later became a cinema before being restored as a live performance space in 1977. Today, it offers a diverse program of entertainment, including opera, musicals, comedy, and concerts. The theatre is a Grade I listed building, recognized for its architectural and historical significance, and is managed by Tyne Theatre & Opera House Ltd, a subsidiary of the Tyne Theatre & Opera House Preservation Trust. The venue also includes a pub, shops, a restaurant, and offices, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
