Harpoon Brewery

Mass. Bay Brewing Company, Inc., commonly known as Harpoon Brewery, is a craft brewery established in 1986 by three college friends. It was the first brewery to obtain a Massachusetts Brewing Permit in over 15 years. Harpoon Brewery began brewing its flagship Harpoon Ale in 1987 and introduced the first East Coast winter seasonal beer, Winter Warmer, in 1988. The brewery is recognized for producing New England’s first India Pale Ale (IPA) in 1992, which has become a staple of the American IPA style.

Harpoon Brewery offers a variety of beers, including Harpoon Ale, Harpoon IPA, and seasonal brews. The company also owns several other craft beer brands, such as Catamount and Long Trail. With two breweries, three brewpubs, and seasonal beer gardens in Massachusetts and Vermont, Harpoon provides direct consumer experiences and hosts community events like the Harpoon Octoberfest and St. Patrick’s Day festival. The brewery is committed to community engagement, supporting initiatives like the Harpoon 5-Miler road race for ALS research and emphasizing employee ownership through its ESOP structure.
