Overview

The Foundation Fighting Blindness is a nonprofit organization founded in 1971, dedicated to advancing research for the prevention, treatment, and cures of inherited retinal degenerative diseases that lead to blindness. These conditions, including retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration, impact over 10 million people in the U.S. and millions more globally.

The Foundation has raised over $950 million to support more than 104 research grants each year, funding over 130 investigators at nearly 100 institutions worldwide. It is the largest non-governmental source of funding for inherited retinal disease research. The Foundation also supports clinical trials, provides educational materials and information kits, and hosts an annual conference called "Visions" to connect patients, families, and researchers. Through these efforts, the Foundation aims to improve the lives of those affected by retinal diseases and foster collaboration within the medical community.
