VISTA

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program established in 1965 to alleviate poverty in the United States. Originally conceived by President John F. Kennedy, it became part of the AmeriCorps network in 1993 and operates under the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Each year, nearly 7,000 volunteers commit to a full year of service, working with nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and community groups across all 50 states and some U.S. territories.

The program focuses on capacity-building activities rather than direct services. VISTA members engage in developing volunteer programs, fundraising, community outreach, and building partnerships. Their efforts help host organizations expand their impact on issues like illiteracy, housing, health, and economic development. The primary beneficiaries of AmeriCorps VISTA's work are low-income communities and individuals facing poverty-related challenges, with partnerships spanning various sectors, including nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and educational institutions.
