Overview

Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is a nonprofit government contractor affiliated with Utah State University, established in 1982. As the sole University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, SDL employs over 1,300 professionals across various locations in the U.S., including Utah, New Mexico, and California.

SDL specializes in designing, fabricating, and operating sensor systems for space and defense applications. The organization has contributed to over 420 space missions and deployed more than 500 hardware and software systems into space. Its core competencies include electro-optical sensors, small satellite development, sensor calibration, ground stations, and multi-domain command and control systems. SDL also offers services in modeling and simulation, cyber analytics, and data processing.

The company primarily serves U.S. government agencies, including the Department of Defense and the Space Force, by providing advanced technologies that address critical challenges in space and defense. SDL is committed to workforce development, employing nearly 200 students to gain practical experience in aerospace and defense research.
