Senado de la República

The Cámara de Senadores, or Senate of the Republic, is the upper house of Mexico's federal legislature, known as the Congreso de la Unión. It consists of 128 senators who serve six-year terms, elected through a mixed system that includes both relative majority and proportional representation. Since 2014, senators can be re-elected for up to two consecutive terms. The Senate's structure includes the Plenary, the Board of Directors, the Political Coordination Board, and 46 standing committees that analyze legislative initiatives.

The Senate shares legislative powers with the Chamber of Deputies, responsible for creating, amending, or repealing laws. It has exclusive authority over foreign policy, including the analysis and ratification of international treaties. The Senate also oversees government appointments and fulfills other constitutional responsibilities. Its primary stakeholders are the citizens of Mexico, political parties, and other branches of government, as well as international entities engaged in treaty ratifications and diplomatic relations.
