Irving Shipbuilding

Irving Shipbuilding is a prominent Canadian shipbuilder and in-service support provider, operating as a subsidiary of J.D. Irving Limited. Established in 1959, the company is headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and employs over 2,100 shipbuilders. It operates two major shipyards, Halifax Shipyard and Woodside Industries, along with a marine fabrication shop and two engineering and logistics firms, Fleetway Inc. and Oceanic Corp.

The company has a strong history of constructing and maintaining vessels for the Royal Canadian Navy, having built over 80% of Canada’s current naval fleet. As part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, Irving Shipbuilding is responsible for constructing six Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships and designing 15 Canadian Surface Combatant vessels. Its services include shipbuilding, in-service support for naval vessels, and engineering and logistics, all aimed at enhancing Canada’s national defense and maritime security.
