The European Commission is the executive branch of the European Union (EU), tasked with proposing legislation, implementing decisions, managing the EU budget, and representing the EU internationally. It operates independently, focusing on the collective interests of the EU rather than individual member states.

Led by President Ursula von der Leyen and a College of 27 Commissioners, the Commission employs around 32,000 civil servants across various roles. It is organized into Directorates-General, each handling specific policy areas, and maintains representation offices in every EU member state as well as EU Delegations worldwide.

The Commission's core functions include proposing new laws, managing EU spending and budgets, enforcing EU laws, and negotiating international agreements. It serves over 447 million EU citizens and businesses, working closely with member states and international partners to promote EU interests and policies.
