City Harvest

City Harvest is New York City’s largest food rescue organization, established in 1982. Its mission is to end hunger in the city by rescuing and distributing food, providing education, and implementing innovative solutions to food insecurity. The organization serves nearly 1.4 million New Yorkers by collecting excess food from a diverse network of donors, including wholesalers, restaurants, and supermarkets, and delivering it free of charge to community food programs like food pantries and soup kitchens across all five boroughs.

Each year, City Harvest rescues tens of millions of pounds of food, with a significant portion being fresh produce. This effort not only addresses hunger but also reduces food waste and CO2 emissions. In addition to food distribution, City Harvest offers programs focused on nutrition education, culinary training, and support for local food retailers, aiming to empower individuals and strengthen the local food system.
