Overview

Birthright Israel Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1999 by Charles Bronfman and Michael Steinhardt. Its mission is to strengthen the connection between young Jewish adults worldwide and Israel by offering a free, educational 10-day heritage trip. The foundation sponsors the Taglit-Birthright Israel program, which helps participants explore and deepen their Jewish identity and connection to Jewish history, culture, and the land of Israel.

The foundation organizes and subsidizes these trips for Jewish young adults aged 18 to 26 from various regions, including North America, Europe, South America, and Australia. Since its inception, over 900,000 participants from more than 70 countries have taken part, making it the largest Jewish communal education project and educational tourism organization globally. The program also engages many Israeli peers, fostering a global Jewish community. Birthright Israel Foundation raises funds from individual donors, philanthropic foundations, and the Israeli government to support these transformative travel experiences.
