ACR (Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research)

The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) is a statutory agency of the Australian Government, established in 1982. It operates within the Foreign Affairs and Trade Portfolio, focusing on improving livelihoods in agriculture, fisheries, and forestry sectors, primarily in the Indo-Pacific region and parts of Africa and Asia. ACIAR brokers and supports collaborative international research partnerships, funding and managing projects carried out by Australian organizations in partnership with institutions in developing countries.

ACIAR provides grants for research projects that address agricultural challenges, ranging from AUD 50,000 to over AUD 1 million. It also supports capacity building through training and development, facilitates knowledge exchange, and offers policy advice to the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs. Its research covers various topics, including crop improvement, livestock health, fisheries development, and climate change adaptation. ACIAR's work aims to enhance food security, agricultural productivity, and sustainable practices, benefiting smallholder farmers and rural communities in developing countries.
